Why the brand name FAYNIA?

Faynia is the combination of 2 words from the Krio language of Sierra Leone, Fayn and Ia. Fayn is the Krio word meaning gorgeous. Ia is the Krio word for hair. Our hair, regardless of texture or choice of styles is gorgeous. God called the woman's hair as our "crowns of glory". FAYNIA was created to put the emphasis of the beauty of our hair and to celebrate what has been God given. We have been shamed for our hair, we are persecuted and judged for our texture and style. Our children have been punished for their hair styles, employers have insisted that some of us change our hair styles to be professional. NO More. We will celebrate and wear our hair with poise, style and pride. This is our hairitage.

My heritage was traced back to Sierra Leone. My family and I had the opportunity to return to our ancestral home to claim citizenship.I pray that all of FAYNIA's customers are blessed to return to ancestral roots to gain citizenship. t

Why FAYNIA?

Faynia's mission is to stand boldly, asserting black pride in our versatile and creative hair while fighting policies, attitudes, and practices that target natural black hair texture and styles. We will lift up the beauty and heritage interwoven into all forms of black hair and lead a movement countering dominant cultures that attack diversity by suppressing black identity.

We affirm that hair is a profound expression of heritage, identity, and personal preference. No one should have to damage their hair with chemicals or dangerous heat styling to achieve some arbitrary definition of "acceptable" or "professional" in order to get an education or earn a living. African American hair in its natural state is beautiful, professional, and acceptable whether it grows from our heads or it's a hair replacement. It's ours and we're blessed with it.
